Inauguration of the Alcaria dos Javazes Museum Centre

Inauguration of the Alcaria dos Javazes Museum Centre

The inauguration of the Alcaria dos Javazes Museum Centre takes place on 21 June at 18:00 local time. As part of the Museum of Mértola, the new Centre is yet another hallmark of the Municipality’s cultural heritage.

The Alcaria dos Javazes Museum is a collection of short stories, a sum of objects that made the daily life of many people. Within a village cottage, where people lived once, there are now artefacts of various origins, fragments of unknown lives. These are memories of times past, marked by simplicity and built at a time when the hours were not perceived as today.

The old house is joined by a new exhibition space. Centuries have passed from shale to concrete, from the shapes of vernacular architecture to modern design. The small house with a yard, a well and an oven takes on another existence.

The Alcaria dos Javazes Museum is owned by the Municipality of Mértola in partnership with Mr. Orlando José, who donated part of the estate.
